Radiant Gas Heaters for Outdoor and Non-Residential Indoor Use
Also Known As:
The specifications for radiant gas heaters intended for outdoor and non-residential indoor usage are outlined in the AS 4565:2004 (R2017) standard. With a maximum gas consumption of 70 MJ/hour, these heaters are designed to run on natural gas, town gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), or tempered liquefied petroleum gas (TLP).
Both mobile and stationary radiant gas heaters are covered under the standard. These appliances can be floor-mounted, mounted or suspended overhead, free-standing, or built into fixtures or pieces of furniture. They can be operated using a separate or built-in refillable LPG cylinder or coupled to a fixed piping system.
The AS 4565:2004 (R2017) standard does not handle portable appliances with a gas consumption greater than 12 MJ/hour; instead, AS 2658 addresses this issue. Radiant tube heaters are also covered in AG 403. Manufacturers, importers, and distributors of goods covered by this standard are in charge of making sure that all other applicable legal and regulatory requirements are met.
