Portable Ladders - Performance and Geometric Requirements
Also Known As:
The AS 1892.1:2018 standard specifies the conditions for the conception and production of portable ladders composed of a variety of materials, including metal, plastic, reinforced plastic, composites, ceramics, wood, and engineered wood.
Two duty ratings are provided by the standard, one for household ladders and the other for industrial ladders. The greatest weight that the ladder can safely support is indicated by the minimum load ratings that are applied to these ratings. Additionally, there are two stability ratings for industrial and home ladders: stability and higher stability. The stability ratings take into account the ladder's stability while in use and may call for stabilizing devices to be added; these devices must be permanently attached to the ladder and cannot be removed.
A variety of ladder types, including single and multiple-section ladders, multifunctional ladders, combination ladders, and special-purpose ladders as described in Clause 1.5, are included in the standard's scope. It also includes other ladders that can be arranged in ways that are comparable to those of the aforementioned ladder types.
It's crucial to understand that the standard does not completely cover ladder attachments. Ladder levelers, stabilizers, stand-off devices, ladder jacks, ladder straps, hooks, castors, shelves, and safety gates are a few examples of accessories that fall beyond the scope of this regulation. It is noted that any attachments should not impair the performance of the ladder or its adherence to the requirements of the standard.
