The non-full-size cribs and play yards are tested for their structural performance in accordance with Standard ASTM F406-19. This standard is applicable to play yards and cribs with hard sides as well as mesh and fabric assemblies. It also specifies specifications for educational materials and labeling.

A non-full-size crib or play yard is defined by the standard as a framed enclosure with a floor intended for sleeping and playing accommodations for a child who cannot climb out and is shorter than 35 inches (890 mm). It also covers add-ons to a non-full-size crib or play yard, such as bassinets, changing tables, or similar items. Additional requirements of other ASTM standards that are specific to certain accessories, like Specification F2388, must also be met by these accessories. This specification, however, does not apply to inflatable goods.

It is crucial to remember that any product created after the date of approval of this standard should not make the claim that it complies with this specification unless it satisfies all of the specifications set out in the standard, both before and after being put through testing.
