Standard EN SampleStandard Consumer Safety Specification for Frame Child Carriers
Also Known As:
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has documented mishaps involving frame child carriers, and the ASTM F2549-22 standard tries to resolve these reports. By focusing on occupant retention, structural integrity, and a lack of consumer education regarding product use, the standard seeks to reduce the risks connected to these items.
To encourage the safe use of frame child carriers, the standard provides performance standards, test procedures, and labeling requirements. It applies to items made to support a youngster on the caregiver's back while they are standing up. These carriers are designed to be used with kids between the weights of 16 lb and 50 lb (7.3 kg and 22.7 kg) who can sit up unaided. The youngster can turn his or her head to face the caregiver or away.
Leg opening tests, dynamic strength tests, static load tests, stability tests, locking device tests, unintended folding tests, and removal of protective components tests are just a few of the tests used to assess how well frame child carriers function. Also required are adequate warnings and detailed instructions for assembly, usage, maintenance, and cleaning from the carriers.
It is significant to note that the standard does not cover mishaps or injuries brought on by interactions between the caregiver and child when using the frame child carrier with other people or objects. Frame child carriers manufactured after the standard's approval date must adhere to it.
