Commercial dishwashing machines used for chemical sanitization must adhere to the ASTM F953-19 standard. The standard specifically addresses dishwashing equipment that is manually fed, spray-type, stationary rack-controlled automatically, and dump-type.

This standard covers three different models of dishwashing machines: type I (straight-through), type II (corner), and type III (under counter, front load). Each type has unique design elements and uses. Undercounter machines come in two different designs: style A (single rack) and style B (double rack).

The standard states that when tested at pressures up to 125% of the manufacturer's suggested supply line pressure, dishwashing machines shouldn't leak. Additionally, it establishes specifications for the machines' components, design, operation cycle, electrical apparatus, lubrication, and coating.
