Standard ENStandard Specification for Unvented Liquid/Gel Fuel-Burning Portable Devices
Also Known As:
A standard specification known as ASTM F3363-19 is applicable to portable fuel-burning liquid or gel appliances without a vent. They are referred to as ventless devices because they are created specifically to maintain a flame over the fuel surface in an open reservoir without the aid of external ventilation. They either burn fuel from a disposable, non-refillable fuel container or from an open reservoir of liquid, gelled, or non-solid fuel.
The required fuel capacity is 2.5 L (0.67 gal) or less, and the required power output is 1.47 kW (5000 BTU/h), according to the specification. They can be used either inside or outside, or both, and are made to be readily moved or carried by hand.
Candles, appliances used to cook or reheat food, appliances that burn solid fuels, and appliances without an open reservoir are among the devices that are not included in the specification's scope. To ensure a reasonable level of safety for everyday usage and to lower the danger of fires, fatalities, and injuries, the standard lays out minimum safety requirements for these devices.
It is crucial to remember that this specification does not take the place of additional safety precautions, including adult supervision, careful product observation while in use, and the use of fire detection, alarm, or suppression systems. The standard does not include all the elements necessary for a fire hazard or fire risk assessment under actual fire circumstances, even if it measures and defines how materials, products, or assemblies respond to heat, flame, and forces under controlled conditions.
