Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Particular Requirements for Foot Warmers and Heating Mats
Also Known As:
An international standard called BS EN 60335-2-81:2003+A2:2012 focuses on the safety criteria for electric foot warmers and heating mats used in homes and other similar settings. Appliances with a rated voltage of up to 250 V must adhere to the specification.
Appliances that are not designed for regular household use but still present a risk to the public are covered by the standard. This covers common household equipment used in retail establishments, small-scale industries, and farms. The standard intends to address frequent risks connected to this equipment that could harm everyone inside and outside of their houses.
The guideline, however, does not account for people, especially kids, who could have physical, sensory, or mental disabilities that prevent them from using the device safely without adult supervision or the right training. Additionally, it excludes kids from using the appliance.
Two remarks in the standard call attention to extra requirements for appliances used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft, as well as the potential for further requirements to be specified by national health authorities and other comparable agencies. Additionally, the standard clearly states that it does not apply to equipment used for medicinal purposes, electric blankets and pads, electrically heated carpets, or equipment used for animal breeding and rearing.
