Safety of Amusement Rides and Amusement Devices: Design and Manufacture
Also Known As:
The basic specifications for the secure design, calculation, production, and installation of various amusement devices are set out in the BS ISO 17842-1:2015 standard. Roundabouts, swings, Ferris wheels, roller coasters, chutes, grandstands, and other structures are examples of these devices, which can be portable, transient, or permanently installed. The requirements of the standard apply to equipment that is frequently installed without deterioration or loss of integrity, including in fairgrounds, theme parks, and other places. However, it excludes scaffolding, immovable grandstands, installations at construction sites, mobile agricultural structures, and basic coin-operated kiddie rides for up to three kids.
Additionally, even though it is not specifically addressed in the document, the standard can serve as a guide for the design of similar structural or passenger-carrying apparatuses. It is significant to highlight that current national regulations on employee safety are not covered by this standard. After its release date, entertainment devices and significant modifications to such devices and rides are subject to the BS ISO 17842-1:2015 standard. The BS ISO 17842-3 standard contains additional requirements for inspection during design, manufacture, operation, and usage.
