In order to increase the safety of snorkeling activities for both swimmers and divers, the BS EN 1972:2015 standard strives to set safety measures. The snorkels that allow users to breathe while having their faces in the water at the surface are especially addressed by the standard. The usage of snorkels by swimmers and divers is covered.
The regulation does not apply to snorkels that are worn in conjunction with face masks since the snorkel tube opens into the mask, which is a crucial distinction to make. These snorkels are not covered by the requirements of this standard.
