The safety standards pertaining to the design and construction of classified swimming pools are the main subject of the BS EN 15288-1:2018 standard. The standard is applicable to all newly constructed classified pools and, if necessary, can also be relevant to renovations made to already-existing classified pools. While indoor and outdoor swimming pools are the main focus of the standard, it also has some restricted application to separated portions of rivers, lakes, and the sea if it is deemed pertinent.
The standard should be taken into account in conjunction with any applicable municipal, state, or federal laws that may have extra requirements. Additionally, the standard makes it clear that home swimming pools, as specified by EN 16582, are not covered by it.
