Standard ENSmall Craft: Hull Construction and Scantlings - Design Pressures for Monohulls, Design Stresses, Scantlings Determination
Also Known As:
BS EN ISO 12215-5:2019 is a standard for the design pressures, mechanical properties, and design stresses for the scantlings determination of monohull small crafts with a hull length of up to 24 m. The document considers all parts of the boat that are assumed to be watertight or weathertight when assessing stability, buoyancy, and freeboard. It defines the design stresses and pressures for monohulls and gives details about the possible scantlings methods derived from these pressures. The standard is not applicable to racing boats meant for professional racing and covers recreational craft, including recreational charter vessels and small commercial craft and workboats.
The document is intended to be used with other ISO standards such as ISO 12215-10 for rig loads and rig attachments, ISO 12215-9 for appendages, and ISO 12215-8 for rudders to get the complete scantlings of the craft. The standard is applicable to small crafts made from different materials such as aluminium or steel alloys, fibre-reinforced plastics, glued wood or plywood in a single skin or sandwich constructions, and non-reinforced plastics for vessels with a hull length below 6 m. Unless otherwise specified, dimensions are in meters, areas in square meters, masses in kilograms, forces in newtons, moments in newton-meters, pressures in kN/m², and stresses and elastic modulus in N/mm².
