A standard known as BS EN 60730-2-5:2015 lays forth specific specifications for automatic electrical burner control systems. These systems are utilized for the automatic control of burners in domestic settings and other comparable applications, such as heating and air conditioning. The standard covers distinct electronic high-voltage ignition sources, flame detectors, and entire burner control systems, as well as separate programming units.

Unless they are part of a burner control system, standalone ignition devices are not covered by the standard. Additionally, it does not apply to systems that use thermoelectric flame supervision or solely industrial systems. The requirement is applicable to manual controls that are mechanically, electrically, or both integrated with automatic controls.

Systems meeting this standard must have a rated voltage of no more than 660 V and a rated current of no more than 63 A. If the automated action of a control depends on how the control is mounted in the piece of equipment, the response value of that automatic action is not taken into account. The standard comprises electrical devices as well as systems that are responsive to flame characteristics.
