Gas-fired Construction Heaters

For newly manufactured gas-fired construction heaters, guidelines and standards are provided under the ANSI Z83.7-2017 and CSA 2.14-2017 standards. These heaters are generally designed for short-term heating needs in buildings or structures that are being built, altered, or repaired. The specification applies to heaters rated at up to 10,000,000 BTU/h (2930 kW).
The standard is applicable to self-contained heaters that can be connected to ducts and have in-built air circulation or not. If a heater is designed to be used with ducting, the manufacturer-recommended ductwork must be used for testing.
The standard also provides specifications for universal construction heaters that can run on either natural gas or propane gas, as well as direct ground thawing appliances used outside. The standard does not, however, apply to heaters that use flameless catalytic combustion or liquid-phase fuel gases.
The standard offers instructions on measurement units, and unless otherwise stated, psi values are taken to be gauge pressure. It further specifies that any accessories designed for use with appliances that have been certified to this standard must pass testing on that particular appliance.
The standard has two annexes, one of which contains elements specific to Canada and the other of which contains items specific to the US. Additionally, it describes particular building guidelines for appliances made to work with conversion kits that are optionally listed.
