Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-38: Particular Requirements for Commercial Electric Griddles and Griddle Grills
Also Known As:
A standard known as CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-38:20 specifies the safety standards for industrial electric griddles and griddle grills. The IEC Standard 60335-2-38 has been adopted with Canadian modifications. The standard updates the specifications for commercial electric griddles and griddle grills found in CSA C22.2 No. 109-17, Commercial Cooking Equipment, and it replaces the previous edition released in 2001.
Commercial griddles and griddle grills that run on electricity and aren't meant for home use are included in the standard's scope. Commercial environments like restaurants, canteens, hospitals, bakeries, butcheries, etc. use these appliances. The standard applies to appliances having a maximum rated voltage of 480 volts for other appliances and 250 volts for single-phase appliances.
The standard includes both the electrical component of appliances that use alternative kinds of energy as well as the usual risks presented by commercial griddles and griddle grills. Appliances created specifically for industrial use, those destined for use in environments with unique requirements (like corrosive or explosive atmospheres), those used in continuous mass food production, grillers, toasters, and appliances using induction heating sources are all exempt from this rule.
It should be noted that specific authorities may have additional criteria for appliances designed for use in cars, on ships, or in aircraft. In many nations, there may be extra needs for national water supply authorities, labor protection bodies, and similar authorities.
