Household Cooking Ranges
Also Known As:
CSA C22.2 No. 61-16 (R2021) is a standard that is applicable to cooking ranges in residential settings. It is one of the standards published by the CSA Group under the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II. The ninth version replaces earlier iterations and makes several significant updates.
The range of the standard includes domestic cooking ranges with a maximum voltage and power of 250 V and 21 kW, respectively. The purpose of the standard is to guarantee that these cooking ranges are utilized in accordance with the requirements of Part I of the Canadian Electrical Code.
The standard is applicable to a variety of cooking ranges, including electric ranges, built-in electric cooking units, and electric ranges used in conjunction with gas-fired heaters. The culinary area of the kitchen units is also included, which consists of various electric built-in cooking equipment along with an oven, a sink, and a refrigerator cabinet. These goods' induction heater elements fall under the standard's purview as well.
Rangettes, table ovens, toaster ovens, and portable hotplates, which are governed by other standards like CSA C22.2 No. 64 or CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-2-9, are exempt from the requirements of the standard.
The use of an IEC surface temperature probe, new temperature measurement exempt zones, new specifications for coil surface element cooking oil ignition, and new fire and explosion tests for self-cleaning ovens are among the key revisions to this edition of the standard. These modifications guarantee the family cooking ranges' performance and safety in compliance with current regulations.
