Household Cooking Gas Appliances
Also Known As:
The CSA/ANSI Z21.1-2018/CSA 1.1-2018 standard is a collection of rules and recommendations for the design, functionality, and electrical specifications of home cooking gas appliances. It covers newly manufactured appliances that are built using brand-new, unused components and materials. These appliances can be either built-in or floor-supported.
A broad variety of cooking gas appliances are covered by the standard, including those made for natural gas, manufactured gas, mixed gas, propane gas, LP gas-air mixes, and those that may be switched between different types of gases. It also has requirements for appliances used in recreational park trailers and manufactured (mobile) residences.
The standard covers both the design and functionality of the appliances. Clause 4 addresses the construction requirements, and Clause 5 addresses the performance criteria. Additionally, it has unique American electrical sections that cover the installation of electrical apparatus, wiring, and accessories in conformity with the National Electrical Code.
The compact cooking gas appliances for installation in recreational vehicles and outdoor cooking gas appliances, which are addressed in separate standards for respective applications, are not included in this standard. Additionally, it includes guidelines for optional gas appliance conversion kits.
