Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-3: Particular Requirements for Electric Irons
Also Known As:
The safety requirements for electric dry irons and steam irons used for domestic and similar uses are outlined in the CAN/CSA-E60335-2-3:13 (R2018) standard. The standard is applicable to irons with a maximum rated voltage of 250 volts, including those with a separate boiler or water reservoir with a maximum capacity of 5 liters.
The standard's scope encompasses household irons as well as irons used by laypeople in retail establishments, light industry, and farms that could endanger the public. The standard intends to address the frequent risks connected to this equipment that people may encounter inside and outside the house.
The standard, however, does not entirely account for the unique requirements of some people, such as children or people with physical or mental disabilities, who might need extra supervision or training to use the device safely. In addition, the standard notes that specific standards established by national health and safety authorities or agencies in charge of labor protection may be necessary for equipment used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft.
Ironers, appliances created expressly for industrial use, and appliances meant for use in locations with unique characteristics such as the presence of an explosive or corrosive atmosphere are all specifically excluded from the standard's application.
