Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Part 2-35: Particular Requirements for Instantaneous Water Heaters
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for electric instantaneous water heaters used in homes and other comparable contexts are the topic of the CAN/CSA-E60335-2-35-01 (R2021) standard. These appliances can run at rated voltages of up to 480 V for other appliances and 250 V for single-phase appliances. They are made to heat water below the boiling point. Additionally, bare heating element instant water heaters are covered by the standard.
Although the standard primarily focuses on risks associated with household use, it also takes into account equipment used in businesses, light industry, and farms that could endanger the public. The guideline, however, does not clearly address the use of appliances by young children who are not being watched or by people who are ill, as well as any potential misuse by young children.
The standard emphasizes the possibility of additional specifications being required for appliances meant for use in vehicles, ships, airplanes, or tropical regions. Additionally, many national health agencies, labor protection authorities, and similar organizations may have their own unique rules and specifications. The standard also lists a number of exceptions, including those for commercial electric water boilers and liquid heaters, storage water heaters, appliances for boiling water, appliances used exclusively for industrial purposes, appliances used in corrosive or explosive environments, electrode-type instantaneous water heaters, and commercial dispensing appliances and vending machines.
