Standard EN SampleAutomatic electrical controls - Part 2-7: Particular requirements for timers and time switches
Also Known As:
The timers and time switches used in various applications, such as heating, air conditioning, and comparable systems, must adhere to the CAN/CSA-E60730-2-7:18 standard. It adheres to the IEC 60730-2-7:2015 international standard with Canadian modifications. Time-delay switches covered by IEC 60669-2-3 fall outside the purview of this standard.
The CAN/CSA-E60730-2-7 standard covers timers that could run on electricity, gas, oil, solid fuel, or solar thermal energy, among other energy sources. Additionally, it covers timers that are used singly or those that are manually attached to multipurpose controls with non-electric outputs. Devices that only display the time or the passage of time are nevertheless excluded.
The inherent safety and performance features of timers used in home appliances and other comparable gear are guaranteed by this standard. It expands its use to industrial uses including central heating, air conditioning, and process heating where there aren't specific product standards. Additionally, it has timers for tools that regular people use in stores, small businesses, farms, and other public places.
Appliance timers are covered by IEC 60335-1, and manual controls that are mechanically or electrically integrated with timers are covered by CAN/CSA-E60730-2-7. It also covers timers utilizing NTC or PTC thermistors, with standards given in Part 1, Annex J, and timers containing electronic devices, with special criteria outlined in Annex H. The standard also makes reference to IEC 60669-1 for general switch requirements and IEC 60695-11-10 for fire hazard testing with test flames.
