Face Protectors for Use in Ice Hockey
Also Known As:
The fifth edition of the standard, CSA Z262.2-15, replaces editions that were released in 2009, 1990, 1978, and 1977. The standard outlines the specifications for face shields used in ice hockey and is a companion piece to CSA Z262.1, Ice Hockey Helmets.
The purpose of the standard is to outline the performance specifications and testing procedures for face shields made for ice hockey. The intention is to lower the chance of facial and eye damage without sacrificing the game's aesthetics, appeal, or visual requirements. It adds that while using a face protector that complies with this standard can lower the risk, it won't completely eliminate injuries because playing ice hockey is inherently risky.
The standard outlines specifications for markings, range of view, penetration, puck impact resistance, construction, and usage instructions. It covers several face shield designs, such as Type B1, Type B2, Type C, Type D1, and Type D2, for use by hockey players, goalies, and other ice-related personnel, including referees and coaches.
