Vented Gas-Fired Space Heating Appliances
Also Known As:
The specifications for newly manufactured vented gas-fired space heating appliances are laid forth in the ANSI Z21.86-2016 and CSA 2.32-2016 standards. These appliances have input ratings up to and including 400,000 Btu/hr and are made with new, unused parts and materials.
The standard applies to appliances made for use with propane gas, mixed gas, natural gas, produced gas, and LP gas-air mixes. It contains specifications for the design and operation of vented gas-fired space heating equipment.
Specific appliance types, such as gravity vented wall furnaces, fan-type vented wall furnaces, fan-type vented wall furnaces with cooling units, vented room heaters, fan-type direct vent wall furnaces, gravity direct vent wall furnaces, and floor furnaces, are covered by the standard.
It's crucial to remember that this criterion does not apply to appliances whose thermal efficiency is subject to restrictions under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act in the US or particular provisions under Canadian law.
As well as including rules for general product categories, the standard also covers condensing gas-fired space heating appliances, direct-vent wall furnaces, and vented room heaters.
The standard also includes rules for gas appliance conversion kits in addition to provisions that are exclusive to the US and Canada. A list of standards that are cited along with where to get them is also given.
