Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-113: Particular Requirements for Cosmetic and Beauty Care Appliances Incorporating Lasers and Intense Light Sources
Also Known As:
A standard known as CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-113:20 addresses the security requirements for cosmetic and aesthetic care devices that use lasers and strong light sources. The standard is applicable to household and similar appliances whose operation depends on skin contact and whose rated voltage is no higher than 250 V. Appliances with a light-emitting surface of less than 25 cm2 are covered by the standard, whereas those with a light-emitting surface of 25 cm2 or more are covered by a distinct standard.
The standard's reach also covers devices that aren't made for common household use but could nonetheless endanger the public, including those used in beauty parlors. Appliances for controlling hair growth and those for skin and cosmetic treatments that use lasers or powerful light sources are among those covered by the standard.
The standard intends to address typical risks connected to such items that are present in the house for everyone. The safety of people, particularly children, whose physical, sensory, or mental capacities may make it impossible for them to use the equipment properly without supervision or education is not considered, though. Children using the appliances for play are also excluded from the standard.
It is crucial to remember that in many nations, extra regulations set forth by national health authorities may take precedence. Additionally, the standard does not apply to devices used for medical treatment, skin or hair care, nail hardening, or devices that expose the skin to optical radiation and have a light-generating surface of at least 25 cm2.
