Also Known As:
A harmonized standard created by CSA Group and Underwriters Laboratories Inc. is CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-29:20. This standard, which is based on IEC Publication 60335-2-29, replaces the previous edition that was issued in 2006.
This standard's scope includes the safety criteria for battery chargers made for domestic and similar uses. These battery chargers feature a rated voltage no higher than 250 V and an output no greater than 250 V of ripple-free direct current. Battery chargers intended for usage in business settings and battery chargers meant for charging batteries in a residential end-use application are likewise covered by this standard.
The standard addresses the typical risks that appliances found in and around the house provide. The talents and limits of some people, such as those who have physical, sensory, or mental impairments or youngsters using the device, are not taken into account. Appliances used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft may require additional regulations, and national health authorities and labor protection authorities may set additional criteria in some nations.
Built-in battery chargers, battery chargers that are a component of a device with a locked battery, battery chargers only made for industrial use, battery chargers for emergency lighting, supply units for electronic equipment, battery chargers for UPS systems, and battery chargers for DC distribution boards are all exempt from the requirements of the standard.
