An adaptation of IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 60335-2-9 is CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-9:20. The general specifications for home electrical appliances in CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-1:16 are meant to be used in combination with this document.
The purpose of this standard is to guarantee the security of portable electric cooking devices with a rated voltage of up to 250 V, such as those used for baking, roasting, and grilling. Its scope encompasses a wide range of kitchen appliances, including contact grills, cookers, food dehydrators, hotplates, induction wok hotplates, pop-corn makers, portable ovens, raclette grills, radiant grills, roasters, rotary grills, rotisseries, toasters, and waffle irons. It also includes indoor barbecues, breadmakers, candy floss appliances, cookers, breadmakers, and waffle irons.
The standard applies to appliances made for typical residential usage as well as related uses, including those found in retail establishments, small businesses, and farms. However, equipment designed for professional use in food processing for sale is not included in the scope of this standard. The standard seeks to address frequent risks connected to this equipment; however, it ignores potential users' restrictions or lack of experience and knowledge, such as youngsters or people with physical or mental disabilities.
This standard does not apply to stationary ovens and grills, warming plates, frying pans, deep-fat fryers, microwave ovens, outdoor barbecues, appliances designed to burn charcoal or other similar fuels, commercial catering equipment, or equipment intended for use in environments with unique requirements, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres.
