Automatic Electrical Controls for Household and Similar Use - Part 2: Particular Requirements for Electrical Controls for Electrical Household Appliances

SKU911332765 Published by Canadian Standards Association CSA Publication Date1999-12-18 Pages CountPages37

The guidelines for automatic electrical controls used in electrical household appliances are laid forth in the CAN/CSA-E730-2-1-94 standard. Specific controls supersede the requirements of this part 2 if a corresponding part 2 has been published, and it applies to controls that fall under the purview of IEC Publication 33-5-1 and its pertinent part 2.

The standard covers testing of automatic electrical control devices used in household or similar equipment, as well as the inherent safety, operating values, operating periods, and operating sequences connected with equipment safety. It contains controls that may respond to factors like temperature, pressure, time, humidity, light, electrostatic effects, flow, liquid level, current, voltage, or acceleration and are mechanically or electrically driven.

The starting relay, a particular kind of automatic electrical control used to switch a motor's starting winding, is likewise covered by the standard. These controls could be a part of the motor or distinct from it. It also comprises manual controls that are physically, electrically, or both a part of automatic controls. IEC Publication 328 covers manual switches that are not a part of an automatic control.

The required controls have a rated voltage of no more than 660 V and a rated current of no more than 63 A. However, if the automated action of a control depends on how the control is mounted in the piece of equipment, it is not taken into account. If the response value is important for the protection of the user or the environment, it should be specified in the relevant household equipment standard or decided by the manufacturer.

Finally, because central heating, air conditioning, and other similar applications have their own unique criteria, the controls used in these applications are not covered by the standard.
