Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-8: Particular Requirements for Shavers, Hair Clippers and Similar Appliances
Also Known As: CAN/CSA E60335-2-8-06, CAN/CSA-E60335-2-8-06
The Canadian Standard Association (CAN/CSA) has adopted the CEI/IEC 60335-2-8 international standard as CAN/CSA-E60335-2-8:06 (R2015).
This standard's scope includes the safety criteria for household electric shavers, hair clippers, and related devices. These appliances' rated voltages shouldn't go over 250 V. The standard covers similar tools for pedicures and manicures as well as tools used by laypeople in farms and stores that could endanger the general public.
It is crucial to remember that the standard primarily focuses on the typical risks connected to this equipment that are experienced by everyone in and around the home. However, it does not account for young children playing with the appliance or the usage of appliances by elderly or infirm people who are not being watched.
The specification also notes that appliances used in cars, ships, or aircraft may need to meet additional standards. It emphasizes the possibility that many nations may have their own particular standards laid out by their national labor protection agencies, health authorities, and other organizations of a similar nature.
The standard is clear that it does not apply to devices used in environments with unique characteristics, such as those with corrosive or explosive atmospheres, massage devices (which are covered by IEC 60335-2-32), or medical devices (which are covered by IEC 60601).
