Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Part 2: Particular Requirements for Oral Hygiene Appliances
Also Known As:
The goal of the CAN/CSA-E60335-2-52-01 (R2011) standard is to guarantee the security of oral hygiene equipment used in homes and other similar environments. The standard applies to appliances with a maximum rated voltage of 250 volts.
This standard covers items like toothbrushes and oral irrigators as examples of appliances. The standard's goal is to address the frequent risks connected to these appliances, ensuring the security of everyone using them inside and outside of their homes. However, it does not expressly take into account the unsupervised use of appliances by young children or people with impairments, nor does it take into account any potential risks related to kids playing with the appliances.
The standard also emphasizes the possibility of extra criteria for oral hygiene devices intended for use in transportation, ships, airplanes, or tropical regions. It also acknowledges the possibility of particular requirements from national health authorities, labor protection authorities, and other such bodies.
The standard does not cover devices used for medical reasons, which are covered by a different standard (IEC 601).
