Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-9: Particular Requirements for Grills, Toasters, and Similar Portable Cooking Appliances
Also Known As:
An adaptation of the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 60335-2-9 is the CAN/CSA-E60335-2-9:13 standard.
This standard covers electric portable cooking equipment with a rated voltage of up to 250 volts that is used for baking, roasting, and grilling. Indoor barbecues, breadmakers, contact grills, cookers, food dehydrators, hotplates, pop-corn makers, portable ovens, raclette grills, radiant grills, roasters, rotary grills, rotisseries, toasters, and waffle irons are a few examples of the appliances covered by this standard.
The standard focuses on the typical risks connected to these appliances that people using them in and around the home may run across. However, it disregards the capacities, lack of experience, and lack of understanding of people, particularly youngsters, who might need guidance or instruction in order to use the appliance safely.
The fact that extra standards would be necessary for appliances intended for use in automobiles, ships, or airplanes, as well as the possibility that national health authorities, labor protection authorities, and other similar entities may prescribe additional criteria, should be noted. The standard does not apply to appliances used in locations with unique conditions, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres, stationary ovens and grills, warming plates, frying pans, deep-fat fryers, microwave ovens, outdoor barbecues, and appliances intended to burn charcoal or other combustible fuels.
