CAN/CSA-E60335-2-15-05 (R2013) PDF Download

The CEI/IEC Standard 60335-2-15 (fifth version, 2002–2007) is adapted in Canada as the CAN/CSA-E60335-2-15-05 (R2013) standard. It updates the first edition from 1994 and covers electrical devices with a maximum rated voltage of 250 V that are used to heat liquids for domestic and similar uses.

To provide clarification, the standard contains a variety of notes and examples. It mentions that some of the equipment covered by its purview might also be used to heat meals. Coffee makers, cooking pans, egg boilers, feeding-bottle heaters, kettles, milk heaters, pressure cookers, slow cookers, steam cookers, wash boilers, and yogurt makers are a few examples of the appliances covered by the standard.

The standard also covers devices used in stores, light industry, and farms that are not intended for regular household use but still present a risk to the public. These devices include sterilizers, boilers for livestock feed, and glue pots with a water jacket.

Although the standard addresses frequent risks related to household appliances, it does not particularly address the usage of appliances by infants or elderly people who are not under adult supervision or the possibility of children playing with the device.

The standard also emphasizes that different countries may have additional requirements established by national health authorities, labor protection authorities, water supply authorities, and other similar bodies. These additional requirements may be necessary for appliances used in vehicles, ships, or aircraft.
