The DIN EN 13611 standard outlines the general safety requirements for controls (safety, control, or regulating devices) used in burners and appliances that burn liquid and/or gaseous fuels. This standard specifies construction, design, and performance requirements as well as testing procedures for various types of controls, including automatic shut-off valves, thermostat valves, multifunctional controls, and more. The standard applies to controls with a declared maximum inlet pressure up to 500 kPa and a nominal connection size up to DN250.
The standard is also applicable for safety and pressure accessories with the product of maximum allowable pressure PS and volume V of less than 600000 kPa.dm3 or a product of PS and DN of less than 300000 kPa. The document is applicable for both AC and DC supplied controls, reset functions used for reset from lockout, and establishes methodologies for the determination of safety integrity levels and performance levels. It also provides guidelines for environmental aspects.
The DIN EN 13611 standard does not cover mechanical controls for use with liquid fuels or provide protection against environmental conditions such as UV radiation, wind, rain, snow, dirt deposits, condensation, ice and hoar frost, earth quakes and external fire. Standards specific to each type of control should be used in conjunction with this standard.
