Child Use and Care Articles - Changing Units for Domestic Use - Part 1: Safety Requirements
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 12221-1 standard specifies the safety standards for residential changing facilities used specifically for kids up to 15 kg in weight. The standard focuses on the changing unit's role as a secure location to change diapers and clothing.
The principal use of the changing unit is the only function covered by this standard; if the unit offers additional functions or conversion possibilities, it must adhere to other applicable standards, such as those for cots or storage furniture.
According to the standard, the changing unit can be folded, and other features, such as a child bathtub or other accessories, are permitted. However, unless they are an essential component of the changing unit, it does not cover changing pads. The goal of the regulation is to protect a child's health and safety when having their diapers changed in a home setting.
