The freestanding and built-in residential cooking equipment that burns flammable gases must meet the safety standards, construction features, and performance requirements outlined in the DIN EN 30-1-1 standard. A wide range of equipment, including freestanding and built-in hotplates, ovens, grills, griddles, table cookers, and cookers, is covered by this standard.

Even if other heating elements require electricity, the standard applies to both standalone appliances and those with component parts integrated into a single appliance. However, it does not include criteria for the electrical safety of component components that are heated by electricity. It also includes standards for the electrical safety of equipment related to the use of gas in appliances.

The standard does not, however, apply to outdoor appliances, appliances connected to a duct for the evacuation of combustion products, appliances with pyrolitic gas ovens, appliances with covered burners that don't meet building codes, appliances with flame supervision devices and limited ignition attempts, appliances with on/off devices for periodically ignited burners, appliances with fans for combustion air supply or product circulation, and appliances with higher pressure

The standards for third-family gas cylinders, their regulators, and connections are likewise not covered by the standard. Only appliance-type testing is included.
