For a variety of storage containers used in residential and commercial settings, the DIN EN 14749/A1 standard specifies safety standards and test procedures. This comprises household furniture used in restrooms, kitchens, and other rooms, such as TV furniture. According to the standard, non-domestic storage units used in offices, industrial settings, catering facilities, retail settings, or industrial storage lockers are exempt from its application.
The standard does not apply to products that are categorized as toys or those that are covered by other specific safety standards like EN 71-1 (Safety of toys, Part 1: Mechanical and physical properties) or EN 62368-1 (Audio/video, information, and communication equipment, Part 1: Safety requirements). Additionally, this standard does not address criteria for aging, degradation, flammability, or electrical safety.
The standard's definition also makes clear that only the cabinet and its parts, including wall attachment devices, are taken into account when determining safety measures that are related to the building's construction, such as the strength of wall hanging units. This standard does not apply to the wall or the wall's attachments.
