For several kinds of kitchen and bathroom storage units, as well as household storage furniture and its components, the DIN EN 14749 standard specifies safety standards and test procedures. This standard only applies to items made for household use and excludes office storage, catering equipment, retail storage, and industrial storage lockers, as well as non-domestic or industrial storage units.
The standard is clear that it does not apply to products covered by EN 71-1, which regulates toy safety, or EN 60065, which lays forth safety specifications for audio, video, and related electronic devices. Additionally, it excludes topics like electrical safety, flammability, and resistance to aging and degradation.
It's important to note that the standard excludes safety criteria that depend on the design of the building, like the durability of wall-hanging units. It instead focuses exclusively on the cabinet and all of its parts, including any wall attachments. This standard does not take into account the wall or its attachments.
