Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-23: Particular Requirements for Appliances for Skin or Hair Care
Also Known As:
A standard called IEC 60335-2-23:2016+AMD1:2019 focuses on the safety standards for electrical devices used in homes for skin or hair care. The standard includes many different gadgets, including hairdryers, facial saunas, curling combs, and more. Appliances that emit steam or spray are also included. The standard covers appliances made for laypeople in retail establishments, small businesses, and farms.
The standard attempts to address any risks that could arise from anyone using these appliances, provided they possess the appropriate physical and mental capacities to do so safely. The guideline, however, does not take into account those who might need supervision or teaching to ensure safe use, such as youngsters. Appliances made for industrial usage or for use in situations with unique requirements are also not covered by the standard.
The standard has been amended and revised for this sixth edition. Hair straighteners have been added to the list of examples that are covered; some instructions have been changed; fixed hairdryers and hand dryers are exempt from certain requirements; test procedures and compliance standards have been clarified; and there are new requirements for hairdryer intake protection.
