Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-6: Particular Requirements for Stationary Cooking Ranges, Hobs, Ovens and Similar Appliances
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for stationary cooking ranges, hobs, ovens, and comparable household appliances are covered by the standard IEC 60335-2-6:2014+A1:2018. For single-phase appliances, the rated voltage cannot exceed 250V, while for other appliances, it cannot exceed 480V. It also specifies the standards for ovens used aboard ships.
The standard intends to address frequent risks connected to this equipment that could jeopardize the safety of everyone within and outside the home. It does not, however, take into account the safety of people who have restricted physical, sensory, or mental capacities or who lack the expertise and knowledge necessary to use the appliances properly without supervision or instruction. Additionally, it excludes kids from using the appliances.
The introduction of requirements for steam ovens and ship-use ovens, the clarification of the construction and testing requirements for oven shelving, the addition of optional values for the accessible surface temperatures of ovens, the addition of stabilizing devices and warnings, the clarification of representative periods for various appliances, and the addition of a spillage test for built-in under-bench ovens are some of the notable changes in this edition of the standard.
This description is based on the sixth edition of the standard (2014) and its amendment 1 (2018); the amendment does not need to be ordered separately because it is included in this consolidated version, which also contains all the necessary revisions.
