A standard called IEC 60335-2-38:2021 focuses on the security requirements for industrial electric griddles and griddle grills. Appliances made specifically for industrial use or those destined for areas with unique characteristics, including corrosive or explosive atmospheres, are exempt from the standard's requirements. Additionally, it does not include battery-operated appliances, grillers and toasters covered by a different standard, toasters that use induction heating, or machines used in continuous mass food preparation.

The fifth edition of IEC 60335-2-38:2021 is repealed, and its revisions are replaced by the sixth version. Technical updates in line with IEC 60335-1:2020 and clarifications of test requirements are included. Unless a particular edition specifically prohibits its usage, the standard should be utilized in conjunction with the most recent edition of IEC 60335-1 and its revisions.
