The IEC 60704-2-18:2022 standard establishes precise guidelines for measuring the amount of airborne acoustical noise generated by electric water heaters used in homes and other comparable settings. The specification covers electric water heaters that are built-in, concealed, mounted on a wall, positioned under a counter or sink, or placed on a counter.
Note that the standard does not apply to combustion water heaters, water kettles, heat pump water heaters, conventional electric storage water heaters as defined by IEC 60335-2-21:2012, or instantaneous electric water heaters devoid of any noise-producing elements like motors and pumps.
Additionally, IEC 60704-1:2021, a general test code for assessing the airborne acoustical noise of household and similar electrical equipment, is designed to be used in combination with this standard.
