Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-81: Particular Requirements for Foot Warmers and Heating Mats
Also Known As:
A standard called IEC 60335-2-81:2015+A1:2017+A2:2020 focuses on the security requirements for electric heating mats and foot warmers used in homes and other similar situations. Appliances with a rated voltage of up to 250 volts must adhere to the specification. Appliances that can be utilized by laypeople in stores, light industry, and farms are also included, provided that they present a risk to the general public.
The standard intends to address the frequent risks connected to this equipment that people may encounter inside and outside of their homes. It does not take into consideration anyone with physical, sensory, or mental disabilities, children, or others who would not be able to use the appliance properly without adult supervision or guidance.
The 2002, 2007, and 2011 editions of the standard have been updated and replaced by this third edition. It makes a number of modifications, including calling for washable equipment and flexible cord controls. Before putting the new criteria into practice, it is crucial for manufacturers and testing bodies to become familiar with them and carry out the necessary tests.
The committee advises that the standard be studied in conjunction with IEC 60335-1:2010 and that national implementation be completed 12 to 36 months after the standard's release. There is no longer a need to order individual amendments because the standard's third edition (2015), amendments 1 and 2 (2017 and 2020), and amendment 3 (2020) are all included in the consolidated version.
