Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 1: General requirements
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for electrical equipment used in homes and other similar contexts are the focus of the standard IEC 60335-1:2010. It covers devices with rated voltages up to 480 volts for other devices and 250 volts for single-phase devices. Battery-operated and DC-powered appliances are also covered by the standard.
The standard has undergone various revisions and upgrades for this edition. It lines up the text with the most recent iterations of the cited standards. It makes improvements to the functional safety criteria, particularly those that deal with software validation and programmable electrical circuits. Additionally, it clarifies class III buildings and discusses the high-frequency voltage insulation requirements. Furthermore, notes have been eliminated or changed to normative text.
The standard emphasizes the possibility of a transitional period being needed by manufacturers and testing bodies to execute the required tests and conform to the new standards. Within 12 to 36 months of the publication of the standard, national committees are advised to adopt and put it into practice. The standard copy also contains the information from the corrigenda from July 2010 and April 2011.
