A safety standard called IEC 60335-2-24:2010+A1:2012 primarily addresses the specifications for home refrigerators, ice machines, and ice cream makers. It covers a range of appliance types with differing rated voltages based on the appliance type, including recreational appliances used in boats, touring caravans, and camping equipment. The standard guarantees the security of these appliances, whether they are powered by an independent battery or the mains.
The text has been updated to align with IEC 60335-1 and its amendments, clarify terms like "household and similar use," update marking requirements for battery-operated appliances, add requirements for appliances using transcritical refrigerant systems, improve the flexing test, add requirements for accessible glass panels, and clarify tests for appliances using flammable refrigerants. These are just a few of the major changes made in this edition.
National committees are urged to take into account a transitory period for producers and testing facilities to adhere to the new specifications and carry out revised tests. According to the standard, the material should be implemented nationally no earlier than 12 months and no later than 36 months after it was published.
It is not necessary to order the amendment individually because this consolidated version includes both the seventh edition of the standard (2010) and its amendment 1 (2012). IEC 60335-1:2010 should also be read in combination with it.
