Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-25: Particular requirements for microwave ovens, including combination microwave ovens
Also Known As:
The safety standards for microwave ovens and combination microwave ovens used in homes and other similar settings are the subject of the standard IEC 60335-2-25:2010+A1:2014. The standard applies to devices with a maximum rated voltage of 250 volts. Additionally, it contains guidelines for microwaves used on ships and equipment destined for use in stores, light industry, and farms that can endanger the public.
The standard defines the distinction between household and similar use and commercial use, which clarifies the scope. Additionally, it states that minors playing with the appliance or anyone without the requisite training or competence to operate it properly are not considered to meet the standard.
Updates to the door endurance test, support for interlock systems with concealed door interlocks, and alternative interlock systems without disguised door interlocks are among the edition's most significant modifications. The standard also specifies the pollution level for combination microwave ovens and offers particular tests for electronic door interlock systems. In combination microwave ovens, the thickness requirement for sheaths of obviously glowing heating elements is further defined.
It is advised that this standard be implemented nationally no earlier than 12 months and no later than 36 months after it was published. IEC 60335-1:2013 should be read in addition to the standard. There is no longer a need to purchase a separate amendment publication because this version includes both the sixth edition (2010) of the standard and its amendment 1 (2014).
