A method for figuring out the friability of foam backings attached to textile floor coverings is laid forth in the standard ISO 11858:1999. A material's propensity to quickly crumble or break apart is referred to as its friability. The procedure for evaluating the stability and robustness of foam backings in floor coverings is provided by this standard.
The standard makes it clear that it cannot be used to gauge how likely the foam backing is to degrade after installation. This standard does not address elements that contribute to foam disintegration, such as flexing fatigue and oxidation. Because of this, ISO 11858:1999 does not address long-term performance and instead focuses largely on the attached foam's initial friability.
