Safety of Toys - Part 8: Age Determination Guidelines
Also Known As:
The ISO/TR 8124-8:2016 standard offers recommendations for figuring out at what age children should start using particular toy subcategories. Manufacturers and organizations in charge of assessing the conformity of toys to safety standards make up the main target audience for this standard. Distributors, companies, and institutions interested in children's play, as well as experts like teachers and pediatric facilities, can also use it.
These recommendations provide an example of the range of ages during which a typical youngster has gained particular skills. It acknowledges that every child has a distinct developmental rate for acquiring certain skills. Specific safety needs are covered by other toy safety standards, so those are not addressed by the recommendations. For instance, due to the choking threat, small pieces and balls are not allowed in toys designed for certain age groups.
It's crucial to keep in mind that these age-determination guidelines could differ from local, national, or international laws or rules that categorize toys or toy categories for various age ranges. Information regarding the factors that were taken into account when developing the guidelines is provided in Annex B of the standard.
