Ceramic cookware created for cooking purposes is subject to the ISO 8391-1:1986 standard. This standard's goal is to ascertain how much lead and cadmium ceramic cookware releases into food when it comes into contact with its surface. This is accomplished by removing the cookware surfaces using a hot, 4% acetic acid solution.
Using an acetic acid solution, the cookware surfaces are removed, and the extracted solution is then tested for lead and cadmium concentrations. The atom absorption spectroscopic method is used to determine the presence of lead and cadmium. This technique makes it possible to measure these heavy metals precisely and find them in the extracted solution.
