Standard EN SampleAlpine Ski-Bindings: Selection of Release Torque Values
Also Known As:
The standard ISO 8061:2015 offers recommendations for choosing release torque levels for alpine ski bindings. The standard is intended to help ski shops adjust ski bindings that have already been mounted, as well as ski binding manufacturers determine the proper release torques to use in their installation and usage instructions.
The latest generation of alpine ski bindings are expressly covered under the standard. Non-mechanical bindings and bindings used with boots that extend higher than midway up the lower thigh might not be covered by this rule.
The standard specifies two techniques that manufacturers may employ singly or in combination to figure out the suggested release torques. These techniques are based on binding test devices that measure torque. If force-measuring test equipment is utilized, the release force must be computed using the recommended method.
The standard takes into account the skier's ability to guarantee the accuracy of the suggested release torques. The standard specifies three different types of skiers, which are further explained in Annex A, and skier-type correction factors are used.
