To calculate the number of tufts and/or loops per unit length and per unit area of carpets, the ISO 1763:1986 standard was created. This standard applies to carpets with an evenly distributed pile made up of tufts and/or loops.
The process for counting tufts and loops is laid out in the standard, which also defines what they are. It incorporates various technical changes as well as the addition of a provision on the conditioning of the test specimen, and it replaces the first edition of the standard (ISO 1763–1973).
