ISO 17842-2:2015 is a safety standard that establishes the bare minimum for the safe operation and use of amusement rides and amusement devices. It includes machines and structures that are movable, temporary, or permanently erected, such as roundabouts, swings, boats, Ferris wheels, roller coasters, chutes, grandstands, membrane or textile structures, booths, stages, side shows, and structures for artistic aerial displays.

The specification applies to devices that may be placed repeatedly without degradation or loss of integrity, as well as those that are temporarily or permanently erected in fairgrounds, amusement parks, or other venues. Its goal is to assure the safe operation, maintenance, inspection, and testing of this equipment.

Fixed grandstands, building site installations, scaffolding, portable agricultural structures, and basic coin-operated children's amusement devices carrying no more than three children are not covered by the standard.
