The general specifications for playground equipment and surfacing in New Zealand are provided by the NZS 5828:2015 standard. The goal of the standard is to encourage the creation of playgrounds that are well-planned, expertly built, meticulously maintained, inventive, and difficult.
The standard is based on and identical to various European and British standards, including BS 7188:1998, including Amendment 2:2009, EN 1176 Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, and 11:2008, and EN 1177:2008. This demonstrates how the playground equipment and surfacing adhere to global best practices.
