UL 142:2021 PDF Download

The UL 142:2021 standard provides requirements for steel atmospheric storage tanks designed to store stable flammable and combustible liquids with a specific gravity not exceeding 1.0 in aboveground applications. These tanks may come in different shapes and orientations with or without multiple compartments. They are intended for use and installation in accordance with various codes and standards, including NFPA 30, NFPA 31, NFPA 30A, NFPA 37, NFPA 1, and International Fire Code.

The tanks covered by UL 142 are fabricated, inspected, and tested for leakage before shipment from the factory as fully assembled vessels. However, requirements for tanks covered by the Specification for Field-Welded Tanks for Storage of Production Liquids, API 12D, and the Specification for Shop-Welded Tanks for Storage of Production Liquids, API 12F, are not covered by UL 142. The standard also does not cover special evaluations for natural disasters or vehicle impact, as well as portable tanks for transporting flammable or combustible liquids or for mobile use.
